The Effect of Volunteer Management on Intention to Continue Volunteering: A Mediating Role of Job Satisfaction of Volunteers
Introduction
This study delves into how managing volunteers effectively can boost their willingness to keep volunteering, with a keen focus on how job satisfaction plays a pivotal role in this process. It underscores the significance of practices such as rewarding, empowering, offering flexible schedules, providing proper orientation and training, and fostering social interactions among volunteers.
Key Findings for Volunteer Involving Organisations
The research, conducted during the Chingay Parade in 2018, surveyed 202 volunteers and utilised structural equation modelling to explore the dynamics between volunteer management, job satisfaction, and the desire to continue volunteering. The findings reveal a direct positive impact of volunteer management on job satisfaction and, subsequently, on volunteers' intention to stay. This highlights the critical role of acknowledging and rewarding volunteers, alongside customising management strategies to align with their preferences.
Benefits for Practitioners
For volunteer management practitioners, this document offers valuable insights into enhancing volunteer satisfaction and retention. By implementing effective volunteer management practices, organisations can ensure a more motivated and committed volunteer workforce. This study not only reinforces the importance of strategic volunteer management but also provides a guide for practitioners to refine their approaches for better volunteer engagement and retention.
