Volunteerability

Meeting National Standards and Strategy Seal Meeting National Standards and Strategy What's this?

Introduction

Volunteerability enables organisations to develop volunteering opportunities that are accessible to people with disabilities. It offers practical guidance on inclusive practices, disability awareness, and preparing organisations to welcome all volunteers. A comprehensive toolkit is available for volunteer managers, covering essential topics such as inductions, retention, role design, safety, wellbeing, and ways to recognise volunteers’ contributions. The initiative is a partnership among Orana Australia Ltd, Northern Volunteering (SA) Inc., and Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc., with funding from the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services.

Benefits

For individuals with disabilities, Volunteerability takes a person-centred approach, helping them find meaningful volunteer roles. It also provides useful guides and templates for family members, friends, or professionals who support these individuals in their volunteering journey. To further promote accessibility and equity, Disability Awareness sessions and training are offered to improve the inclusivity of volunteer programmes.

Application by Volunteer Managers and Organisations

• Volunteerability helps volunteer managers design roles and environments that accommodate diverse needs.

• It features tools and strategies for retaining and recognising volunteers.

• Its training and resources help build capacity for inclusive volunteering.

• It aligns with disability inclusion action plans and workplace safety standards.
